FAQ

How much does a commission cost?

£220 per book, paperback or hardback, whatever the design. Box sets start from £400 and are painted as one scene that runs across all the books; I’ll confirm the price of yours before you pay. If you’d like me to source the book, I add its cost too.

I don’t know what I’d like painted. Can you help?

Of course, and many people start this way. Just send me the book title, plus anything you love about the story if you like. I’ll design the scene I think suits it best and show you a sketch. We’ll finalise it together before I start painting.

Can you paint any scene I like?

Almost. A book’s edge is a narrow canvas, so very detailed scenes need simplifying to read well from the shelf. Tell me your idea and I’ll suggest how to make it work, then you approve the sketch before I paint.

What’s the difference between the three options?

Hand-painted edges are original scenes I paint entirely by hand, designed around your idea. Sprayed edges are sprayed in your colours and finished with a crisp stencilled design. Sprayed + hand-painted details start the same way, then I paint one or two finishing touches by hand, like smoke, flames, light or stars. Both sprayed options have one price per box set, however many books are in it. They’re coming soon.

Do you have books ready to buy?

Yes, when I have them. Finished books are in the Available now section of my shop: you can buy them straight away and I post them within 1–2 days. Each one is one of a kind, so join my list to hear when I add a new one.

Can I order one of your past designs?

Yes. Find it in the Sold section of my shop and tap “Reorder this design” to go straight to checkout. Past designs have a fixed price that includes a new copy of the book: £220 per book and £400 per box set. I order the book, it takes 1–2 days to reach me, then I paint it by hand, so yours ships within 5–7 days.

Where do you ship?

To the UK, the European Union, the United States, Canada and Australia, always tracked. For one or two books:

  • UK: £4.99, free on orders over £50
  • European Union: £14.95
  • United States: £24.95, import duties prepaid
  • Canada and Australia: £26.95

Box sets cost a little more because they’re heavier. You’ll see the exact price at checkout. Live somewhere else? Message me and I’ll see what I can do.

Will I have to pay import fees?

Not in the US: I prepay import duties, so there’s nothing to pay on delivery. In other countries outside the UK, your parcel may be subject to local import taxes, which are paid on delivery.

Can I send you my own book?

For commissions, yes. I’ll email you the address and packing tips. Postage to me is at your cost, and I recommend a tracked service. If you live outside the UK, it’s usually easier and cheaper for me to source the book here: just tell me which edition you’d like.

Which books work best?

Paperbacks and hardbacks with smooth, trimmed page edges. Books with deckled (rough-cut) edges aren’t suitable. If you’re not sure, send me a photo of the edges.

Can I still open and read my book?

Yes. The paint stays on the surface of the page edges instead of soaking into the pages, and I protect every painting with a fixative. The book opens and the pages turn just like any other book.

Can you source the book for me?

Yes, for standard editions. For special, signed or collector’s editions, get in touch first and I’ll check availability and price.

What if my book is hard to find?

It doesn’t happen often, but some books and editions aren’t sold by UK shops and have to be ordered from the US or elsewhere. That can add a few weeks and extra shipping costs. If your book is less common, message me before you order and I’ll check availability, timing and cost first.

How long does it take?

  • Ready to ship: I post it within 1–2 days.
  • Reordered past designs: they ship within 5–7 days. I order a new copy of the book, which takes 1–2 days to reach me, then I paint it by hand.
  • Commissions: we agree the design first, so I confirm an estimated timeframe with each order.

If you need it by a specific date, let me know before ordering.

How do I care for my book?

Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from damp. When the book is new, fan the pages gently the first few times you open it. Don’t wipe the edges with anything wet.

Can I return my book?

Yes, if you bought a book ready to ship or reordered one of my past designs. Tell me within 14 days of delivery, then send it back within 14 days in the condition you received it. Return postage is at your cost, and I refund the book and the original delivery cost within 14 days of getting it back. Commissions are designed with you and painted just for you, so they can’t be returned or cancelled once I’ve started. If anything arrives damaged, contact me within 48 hours with photos and I’ll put it right.
